Position: Executive Director

ONE (Orinda Network for Education) is seeking a part-time Executive Director (ED) to work in close relationship with our public-school partners and the Orinda, California community to develop and execute fundraising strategies that will result in the receipt of approximately $5,000,000 of donations per year to support Orinda public schools.

The ideal Executive Director candidate brings a demonstrated track record of fundraising success, an enthusiasm for development work and strong interpersonal and communication skills.


Primary Roles and Responsibilities


The ONE Executive Director will be responsible for three core roles and responsibilities:


  1. The ED is responsible for ensuring the organization consistently achieves its short and long-term fundraising goals and financial objectives as established by the board.

  2. The ED will be the primary community representative of ONE and will be expected to represent ONE at various community meetings, community events, school board meetings, parents club meetings, coordinating council meetings and other public functions.

  3. The ED will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, the Orinda Union School District, the Acalanes Union High School District and the parent leadership of each member school to support fund development efforts. 


Other Roles and Duties

  • The ED reports to the ONE Board of Directors.

  • The ED will be responsible for hiring and managing the ONE staff, which currently includes the Operations Manager. 

  • The ED will create, and manage to, a board approved annual organizational budget. 

  • The ED will work with the Investment Committee of the Board of Directors to oversee the investment of the ONE Funds Functioning as Endowment (FFE) and the ONE Reserve Funds.

  • The ED will assume primary responsibility for soliciting donations from ONE Business Partners and non-school parent community donors. 

  • The ED will work with school partners to identify and cultivate relationships with high net worth donors at the school sites and in the community

  • The ED will create and execute an annual marketing and communications plan. The ED will be responsible for overseeing all organizational communications.

  • The ED will work with the board to create an Annual Report for the Orinda Community that recognizes the generosity of ONE’s donors as well as gives an annual fundraising/expense summary.

  • The ED will support the creation and execution of ONE’s annual fundraising event. 

  • The ED will assist the Operations Manager, when needed, with donation processing, tracking and reporting in the Raiser’s Edge database.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree

  • Professional development experience in a nonprofit organization; tangible and demonstrated success in cultivating existing and new donor relationships.

  • Thorough knowledge of development processes, including donor identification and solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship

  • Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.  

  • Flexible and adaptable working style capable of managing multiple tasks and projects

  • Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others

  • Capacity to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences

  • Ability to receive and give supportive feedback

  • Previous experience with Raiser’s Edge donor management platform


Hours and Compensation

  • The Executive Director role requires 25-30 hours a week, depending on work flow, with very flexible working hours

  • Salary will be commensurate with candidate’s experience and expertise – expected salary range offered is $90,000-$110,000

  • Salary offer will include bonus structure dependent on fundraising success.
